Andy Lau is one of the most successful stars of Cantopop, having released about 50 albums in Cantonese and Mandarin since being spotted by George Lam, his co-star in Ann Hui's cult film Boat People, in 1982. At the height of his pop career in the '90s, Lau was named as one of Hong Kong's Four Heavenly Kings, along with Jacky Cheung, Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai. As well as dominating Cantopop, he has maintained his screen profile, starring in about 30 TV series and 150 films, with his role in the Infernal Affairs trilogy recreated by Matt Damon in Martin Scorsese's The Departed.
