The Knife Essentials

Swedish sibling duo The Knife have always done things in their own mysterious way. Breaking out domestically with 2003's Deep Cuts, The Knife earned international recognition when Jose Gonzalez's cover of the album's exuberant lead single became a mainstream hit. Instead of writing more uplifting synth-pop, however, The Knife got progressively weirder on Silent Shout and Shaking the Habitual, challenging listeners with dissonant arrangements and creepy vocals. This move helped them build a major following before they disbanded in 2014 on their own terms.
