Mikey Dread Essentials

As a singer, producer and radio broadcaster, Jamaica's Mikey Dread served as one of reggae's greatest ambassadors in the late ‘70s. Though his roots were in the music's bass-heavy sound, Dread also sought to mix it with new styles, and when he teamed up with The Clash on tracks like “Living In Fame”, their combo of jagged guitars and laidback horns made for a huge crossover success. But Dread was always at his headiest in his own realm, mixing psychedelic dubs with his slick deejay patter on tracks like “Resignation Dub”, and adding an extraterrestrial spaciness to the skanking rhythm of “Skin Head Skank”.
