Inspired by Bob Dylan

Bob Dylan's influence on music is immeasurable. But it's more than just his sound that people latched onto—it was his free-wheeling mindset. There's a huge amount of diversity in the musicians that he touched. While some of the artists included here are more literally impacted by his sound (Elvis Costello's “How to Be Dumb” wouldn't exist without “Positively 4th Street”), folks like Beck took Dylan's spirit of adventurousness to far-off places, and Patti Smith followed his sense of seeking, weaving in deeper levels of poetry and introspection. Gomez's junkyard blues? Devendra Banhart's dark forest folk? They chased Dylan's muse off into even weirder, more experimental territory.
