Since forming in the late ‘80s, Dream Theater have dazzled listeners with their pristine musicianship, composing boundary-pushing but accessible rock. While they've got roots in cerebral ‘70s progressive rock (check the spacey, orchestral crush of “On the Backs of Angels”), they're devastatingly heavy, pulling out thrash metal-indebted onslaughts like “Lie” or spotlighting John Petrucci's guitar fireworks on “Take the Time”.
