Brothers Past

About Brothers Past

Brothers Past, a jam band that adds touches of electronica to its progressive rock sound, was formed in 2000 in Philadelphia, PA, by Tom Hamilton (vocals, guitar), Tom McKee (keyboards, vocals), Clay Parnell (bass, vocals), and Rick Lowenberg (drums). In December 2001, the group self-released its debut album, Elements, described in its press biography as "an experimental studio album mixing live recordings with computer sequences to produce an altogether new sonic tapestry." A Wonderful Day, described as "a concept album about insomnia and paranoia," followed in December 2002. An EP, statEPolice, was issued in September 2004. As the band established a national following, it worked for almost a year on its third full-length album in association with producer Jon Altschiller (whose previous clients include Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Phish, and Lenny Kravitz). Titled This Feeling's Called Goodbye, the album was initially released by the band, then picked up by SCI Fidelity Records, which re-released it on October 18, 2005, while Brothers Past was in the midst of a U.S. tour of clubs and theaters running from September to December. ~ William Ruhlmann
