When he was making his most recent album, 2022’s Reviver, Denver DJ/producer Lane 8, aka Daniel Goldstein, committed to reinventing himself as an artist in the midst of the pandemic. That also meant putting in the work on the trainer. “I modeled this mix after a typical indoor bike trainer session I do in the wintertime,” he tells Apple Music of his Fitness Mix for cycling. “Steady riding for one to two hours with short bursts. Using the mix, I'd surge at every drop for 8-16 bars and then drop down to a more sustainable tempo—similar to how a crowd would respond in the club, with high energy at the drop before settling into a rhythm afterwards.” Providing that aerobic arc is a mix of his own tunes (a number of them from Reviver, plus a few older ones) and others that have a special impact. OCULA's “Green Willow” is “one of my favourite tracks in recent memory”, Goldstein says. “The vocals are hauntingly beautiful, and the instrumental just wraps you up with its warm, airy progression. I tried to mix up the energy frequently, to provide contrast and to keep things interesting. The final track from Le Youth is a good wind-down and will hopefully help you transition from working hard to kicking your feet up and relaxing post-ride.”
