Apple Music Home Session: Claudia Bouvette - Single

Taking the time to re-record some of her music for an Apple Music Home Session, Montreal singer-songwriter Claudia Bouvette discovered that “Touchée-Coulée”, an electronic track from her album The Paradise Club, deserved a second take. “I had the feeling it was cut out to be played a little more punk rock,” she tells Apple Music. “I went back to basics, in the simplest and most pared-down way possible.” To do that, she slowed down the tempo for the verses but kept the more frenetic pace in the refrains. Bouvette’s friend, musician Tommy Lunaire, helped produce the session in a studio he set up right next to his bed. “Even though it may seem rudimentary, there’s nothing lacking in this extremely well-equipped space, with its modular synths, electric guitar, bass, computer and everything else you need to record,” Bouvette says. She then fine-tuned things at home, recording the guitar in her own bedroom. “I wanted to use my acoustic guitar to create a grungier effect. I love getting out of more conventional studios from time to time, especially for this type of project that prompts me to rediscover existing songs. I loved adding a more personal touch to it, with a less polished style.” In addition to another one of her own recent songs, “Flowers”, Bouvette also recorded a cover of “I’m Just a Kid” by Simple Plan. “I chose this one from among all of the more recent ones I could have chosen because it was a huge part of my life when I was young,” she says. “I must have listened to it thousands of times—easily.”
