Apple Music Home Session : Ariane Roy - Single

“Normally, I'm not the biggest fan of acoustic covers,” Quebec City singer-songwriter Ariane Roy tells Apple Music. “So I wanted to find a way to make the arrangements interesting, even if they had to be more minimalistic and softer than the original songs.” For her Home Session, she’s taken two of her songs—and the ABBA classic “The Winner Takes It All”—and given them entirely new treatments. “It was an opportunity to try other sound textures to add depth to the songs, to change and stretch the forms and to emphasise the voice and the lyrics,” she says. “I would not have thought at first to put saxophone on ‘Tu as le droit’, but in the end, I am really happy with the direction it gave to the song… The new arrangements changed my perception of the lyrics; it’s less angry, but more melancholy and weary.” Of “Banc de parc” she says, “It's one of the oldest songs I've written, but I'm still attached to it. I find it reassuring. I find that it works in a context where the songs need to be more minimalist.”
