Clara Benin’s music begins as poetry in her notebook, and the rhyme and meter of her tracks are indeed like verses ripped from, rather than worn on, a ragged, world-weary sleeve. Having grown up in a musical household (she was born in 1994 to Side A bandmember Joey), Benin aspired to become a singer-songwriter, but opted to study before stepping out of her dad’s shadow. Somewhere between exultant and wistful, and astoundingly mature for such a young woman, her unique sound ruminates on loss and loneliness, alienation and anxiety, all laid down on threadbare acoustic guitar.
