Zach Williams sounds like an outlaw who travelled endless miles of lonesome highway before finally coming home to Jesus. In many respects, this isn’t far from the truth. After living the rock ’n’ roll lifestyle with his band The Reformation, the Arkansas singer welcomed the Lord into his heart and began penning blue-collar tales of struggle and redemption. His first solo single, 2016’s “Chain Breaker”, establishes his sound: a mix of Southern rock, gospel and country that eschews the polish of modern CCM for the kind of homespun warmth heard on dusty vinyl from The Allman Brothers Band and Johnny Cash. It’s real, honest and deeply soulful.
