About Wanting
China-born, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter Wanting makes heartfelt and melodic adult alternative pop. Born Wanting Qu in 1983 in Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, China, Wanting grew up listening to a mix of Chinese and Western artists including Jonathan Lee, Emil Wakin Chau, Avril Lavigne, Michelle Branch, Sarah McLachlan, and others. However, it wasn't until she left home to study abroad in Canada in 2000 that she began to explore her own interest in singing. During this time, Wanting sang in a rock band, and by 2008 had begun writing her own solo singer/songwriter material. In 2009, she signed to Nettwerk. A year later, her song "Drenched" garnered her more attention after it was used in the soundtrack to the 2010 Honk Kong film Love in the Buff. In 2012, Wanting released her debut album, Everything in the World, which went platinum in China, with Say the Words arriving the following year. In 2015, she returned with the single "Love Birds." Two years later, she released her third full-length outing, LLL, which was produced by Justin Gray (John Legend, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus). ~ Matt Collar
