The Suzan

About The Suzan

The Suzan is the freewheeling dance-punk-pop project of Tokyo-based sisters Saori (guitar/vocals) and Rie (keyboards/vocals). Formed in 2004, the Suzan released their debut album, Suzan Galaxy, in 2007, and it attracted the attention of Peter Bjorn and John's Björn Yttling. He produced the group's second album and Fool's Gold debut, 2010's Golden Week for the Poco Poco Beat. That year, Saori and Rie moved to New York City and toured with acts such as Datarock and Chromeo. In 2015, the sisters moved back to Japan to launch their own Poco Poco Beat label, releasing the mini-album Draw Your Dream that July. The Suzan's sound continued to evolve on 2017's kinetic single "Jungle Beat" and that year's Doki Doki Sounds EP, both of which were released by Peter Bjorn and John's INGRID label. For 2018's Konichiwa EP, the Suzan and Yttling opted for a more polished dance-pop approach. ~ Heather Phares
