Singer, guitarist and composer Pradeep Kumar is known for his serene vocals on Tamil and Telugu songs that draw from his Carnatic music roots. • The son of a music teacher and police inspector, Kumar was encouraged to take lessons in the Carnatic form at a young age. • By 2005, the vocalist had stopped chasing ambitions of becoming a theoretical physicist and dropped out of college to pursue Carnatic music full-time in Chennai. • As a friend of Tamil composer Santhosh Narayanan, whom he met while studying, Pradeep’s earliest playback appearance arrived with “Aasai Oru Pulveli” on the soundtrack to Atta Kathi in 2012. • His exuberant rendition of “Agayam Theepiditha” for political drama Madras earned him a Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer – Tamil in 2014. • Kumar made his debut as a composer on the 2014 Telugu film Maine Pyar Kiya. Since 2017 he’s lent his talents to numerous Tamil cinema soundtracks, and in 2020 created his first Malayalam score for Veyil.
