Apple Music Home Session: Rooksein - Single

For our Apple Music Home Session series—in which we ask artists to record stripped-back versions of their biggest hits, alongside a cover of one of their favourite songs—Afrikaans band Rooksein chose to return to their roots. Here, the trio (Megan Danner, Dian André Maritz and Renier van der Westhuizen) reimagine their 2022 hit “10 Uit 10” and their 2021 single “Damlelielief”, from their album Die Onbekende. “Our live stage personalities have improved dramatically since releasing these songs. Recording them as stripped-down acoustic versions was quite special for us,” the band tells Apple Music. “Building a song from a basic, raw sound is very powerful, because it gives you a lot of leverage as to where the song can go and what you can do with it creatively. We normally write our songs from a very raw and stripped-down stage and then add on when the melodic and lyrical foundation of the song is laid out.” The band rounds out the project with a special cover of “Zombie”, the The Cranberries’ 1994 hit. “It’s a song we’ve been playing live on stage from the beginning of our musical journey,” Rooksein explains. “It’s always an awesome sing-along song for the crowd.”
