A Tape For You

A Tape For You

Capetonian deep house producer-DJ Dwson returns with his third studio album, A Tape For You, dedicated as much to his past and present selves as to any lover of buoyant South African 4/4 cuts. Released on his very own IMPLSV Records, this eight-track deep house menagerie features sounds made all his own, exploring lush soundscapes in “You and Me,” “Fika” and “Valentina”. “When I created this project I wanted each track to be very specific, each carrying weight in its own way, from moody songs to music for the dance floor; songs to listen whilst on long drives or laid back music to meditate to or dance to,” Dwson tells Apple Music. “There’s a song made for everyone. If you’re familiar with my slower, downtempo underground music or the more urban sing-alongs, this tape is for you.” To appeal to the fan inside, he teams up with his own heroes in the illustrious Atjazz with “Weightless”, the inimitable Jullian Gomes on “Lover”, while burgeoning househeads in Ed-Ward (“Redemption”) and SGVO (“Alcatraz”) provide their own interpolations, along with Hyenah and Apple Gule’s tag-team triumph on “The Silence.” As Dwson explains, “As a producer working on an album, there’s specific artists you know could be a good fit for a feature, so each person I had in mind made sense for the particular song, whether it’s sonics, or style, or vocals… I knew it would come together as I envisioned it, so each feature on the project was organic and complimented the album nicely.”
