The Tuba

A relatively young instrument, the tuba was invented a good 200 years after the rest of the brass section was fully developed. Unfairly, in popular culture it’s sometimes thought of as a humorous instrument, and while it’s true that composers have sometimes used its very low register to comic effect, the tuba is far more often employed to inject music with power and weight.
