Petra Marklund’s music career started early—she began recording aged 12, and released the aptly-titled Teen Queen album four years later in 1999. At 18, the Swedish singer took the stage name September and found international success with her bouncy Eurodance. When she returned in 2012 to recording under her own name, Marklund sang in her native tongue and her four-to-the-floor disco sheen had acquired the complexity of experience. From bittersweet ’80s-nodding synth-pop ("Gråta i neon") to a drum machine-led vocal showcase ("Fred"), these latter-day songs chart her confident evolution.
