Avowed crate-digger Johan Cederberg, aka HNNY—a playful nod to his Winnie the Pooh obsession—is a specialist when it comes to splicing samples of old-school R&B into laid-back deep house. But the diversity of the artist’s sonic invention over the years has proven he’s too versatile to be pigeonholed. He channels Four Tet’s folktronica leanings on the tinkling instrumental “Frankfurt” and lubricates dance floors with the bass-forward “Tears”. Elsewhere, the flat-out gorgeous “By” merges gently strummed guitar with nostalgia-inducing tape hiss and a leisurely, rolling beat.
