Hanoi Rocks Essentials

A Finnish band who fused '70s rock fundamentals, glam flair and punk fury, Hanoi Rocks forged a path not just for the hair-metal acts they inspired but the rawer likes of Guns N' Roses. Formed in Helsinki in 1979, the band swiftly established a reputation for wild shows and full-bore singles like "Love's an Injection". Drummer Nicholas "Razzle" Dingley's death in an infamous 1984 car crash prompted the original band to split just as they were on the verge of U.S. stardom. Even by then, it was clear to see how much Hanoi Rocks had anticipated the direction of hard rock in the '80s, thanks to such ferocious originals as "High School" and over-the-top covers like their hit version of Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Up Around the Bend". Singer Michael Monroe restored the momentum in the releases that followed Hanoi Rocks' relaunch in 2001.
