Born Jamericans Essentials

The short-lived but influential duo Born Jamericans comprised singer Norman "Notch" Howell and rough voiced DJ/rapper Edley "Shine" Payne. Both were American-born of Jamaican heritage, hence the name. Inspired equally by Jamaican dancehall and American hip-hop, they were signed to the Delicious Vinyl label, home of Tone-Loc and Young M.C.. They broke up after their sophomore album, Yardcore which featured smoother R&B grooves. Today, Notch is still making music as a solo artist, having collaborated with artists like Daddy Yankee and Sublime.
