Born in Donegal, Ireland, Tom Doherty learned to play the melodeon in the early '20s. He traveled to find work, first to Scotland and England and then to the U.S., where he settled in Brooklyn. All the while, he kept alive the rare tradition of the Irish melodeon, playing at dances, parties, and sessions. ~ Steve Winick
