About The Zombies

Formed in 1962, legendary British Invasion-era band The Zombies are known for their pop and psychedelic rock hits. ∙ The Zombies’ first US single, 1964’s “She’s Not There,” would also be their highest charting release, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. ∙ Because 1967’s Odessey and Oracle didn’t provide a budget for backup musicians, arrangements were fleshed out with a Mellotron, which The Beatles had left in their studio. ∙ Their most famous song, “Time of the Season,” was recorded in August 1967, released the following March, and didn’t peak (at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100) for another year. ∙ After the Zombies broke up, vocalist Colin Blunstone re-recorded their hit “She’s Not There” in 1969 under the pseudonym of Neil MacArthur, and it hit No. 34 on the British pop chart. ∙ For the 50th anniversary of Odessey and Oracle in 2017, the band’s surviving original members reunited for a North American tour, during which they performed the entire album. ∙ Susannah Hoffs of The Bangles inducted The Zombies into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2019. ∙ Odessey and Oracle appeared in both the 2003 and 2020 editions of Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums list.
