About Pulkas

Led by intimidating vocalist Luke Lloyd, this purposefully extreme, hard rocking four-piece was formed in the mid-90s when they met on a London Underground train. Martin Bourne (guitar), Jules McBride (bass) and Rob Lewis (drums), together with Lloyd, accepted a contract with Earache Records, despite other offers. The quarter joined the label’s 1998 NextGen package tour before entering the studio with Colin Richardson, previously producer with Machine Head and Fear Factory. The result was Greed, which earned them a series of comparisons with Korn and Tool that the band resented. The cover of Greed, meanwhile, earned the band a certain notoriety, featuring as it did a picture of a sperm fertilizing an egg.
