Howard Tate

About Howard Tate

Georgia-born, Philadelphia-bred soul man Howard Tate was in a gospel group with a young Garnett Mimms before embarking on a solo career. Working with producer/songwriter Jerry Ragovoy, he released his debut album, GET IT WHILE YOU CAN, a classic of 1960s soul. Not long after, the title track was made famous by Janis Joplin. Tate's follow-up recordings didn't sell well, and he'd left the music business by the end of the '70s. A Tate-loving DJ coaxed him out of hiding in 2001, and he began performing and recording again, his matchless voice as strong as ever.
