About Bang Bros

Bang! Bros. are a Boston-based group who approach free jazz improvisation from an electronic perspective. The core duo of Arkm Foam and Mark Johnson perform highly chaotic, noisy live sessions using drum machines, samplers, pedals, and tape decks, with absolutely no sequencing or programming. On many of their performances, they are joined by saxophonist Andy Allen (formerly of Guerilla Toss), who adds an extra level of skronk to the duo's untethered machine jams. The group have documented their sonic explorations with releases such as 2016's Food for Thoth and the multi-volume Hard Rocks series. The group was founded in Boston in 2012, and they immediately began playing shows and releasing numerous tapes in their Hard Rocks series on labels such as Moss Archive and Teen River. On December 12, 2012, Bang! Bros. performed 12 brief concerts in 12 different towns; a document of this whirlwind tour, 12/12/12, was released by Feeding Tube Records and 100% Breakfast! in 2014. Food for Thoth, the trio's first release on Hausu Mountain, appeared in 2016. Hard Rocks Vol. 21, entirely recorded in less than an hour, was released as an LP by Feeding Tube in 2018. The two-volume Big Bang! Theory, recorded in a single morning, was released by Hausu Mountain in 2019. ~ Paul Simpson
