Wire: Next Steps

The UK band Wire made a career out of confounding expectations. Their 1977 debut Pink Flag was all spiky minimalist punk, but within two albums they were on to a lusher mix of melody and menace. Since their latter-day reunion they've done catchy pop, abrasive electronica and everything in between, writing should-be-classic songs along the way. Here we salute a still-unconventional band.
