Junior Wells: Next Steps

Despite his lofty stature in the annals of Chicago blues, Junior Wells wasn't a purist. The tough-strutting howler and mouth harpist also had a hearty appetite for R&B, recording gems like the instrumental “Cha - Cha - Cha In Blue (Cut My Toe Nail)”, which utilises a slinky Latin groove, and “The Train I Ride”, a country-funk jam slathered in wah-wah. Even Wells' iconic take on “You Don't Love Me Baby” retains the original's greasy R&B flavour.
