easy life Essentials

Leicester five piece Easy Life are so laidback it’s hard to listen to them without wanting to kick back, in a park or on a beach with a cold drink in hand. From their debut 2017 single “Pockets” the group have conjured hazy summer days blending rap, jazz and pop to create a sound all their own. It’s an ethos summed up on the chorus of “Slow Motion”, where frontman Murray Matravers sings that he has to “take my foot of the gas.” Backed by shimmering horns, bass and drums his smart and funny lyrics, delivered in a half-sung, half-rapped drawl, cover the opposite sex, getting stoned and Colin The Caterpillar birthday cakes (on “Houseplants”). The 2020 mixtape Junk Food and the lovelorn Arlo Parks-assisted “Sangria” suggest there’s much more to come from the fast-maturing band, too.
