Dmytro Shurov is the eponymous Pianoboy at the centre of the genre-hopping Ukrainian pop outfit. As the name might suggest, his keyboard playing often serves as the fulcrum, but it never showily overshadows the other performers. Together, they cover a lot of ground without being beholden to any one mood or style. Slinky acid-jazz vibes slide comfortably alongside peppy indie tunes, high-energy dance-pop, hints of rockabilly and retro-leaning rhythms—all blending into cool urban grooves over which Shurov’s lyrics flow with hip-hop attitude.
