About Tony Gould

b. Anthony James Gould, 2 February 1940, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. After playing piano semi-professionally Gould began attracting notice on the Australian jazz scene in the early 60s, and later in the decade became linked with Brian Brown. Soon after this Gould entered a period during which he extended his studies, taught, engaged in lecture tours and, while retaining his interest in jazz, also performed with symphony orchestras and chamber music ensembles. In the mid-70s, he returned to the jazz audience’s attention to take a significant role as performer and composer. Throughout his career, Gould’s contribution to Australian jazz, especially to the stylistic cutting edge, has been invaluable.
