Esmerine

About Esmerine

Canada's Esmerine are an ambitious, Juno Award-winning chamber rock ensemble known for their expansive, largely acoustic and guitar-free instrumental sound, which draws from avant-garde classical and post-punk as well as several traditional styles. Established by cellist Rebecca Foon and percussionist Bruce Cawdron, both of whom were members of Set Fire to Flames, as well as other Montreal ensembles such as A Silver Mt. Zion and Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Esmerine debuted in 2003 with If Only a Sweet Surrender to the Nights to Come Be True. Additional members and guest musicians joined for 2011's La Lechuza, and the Istanbul-recorded Dalmak (2013) featured several Turkish musicians. The group has continued crafting mournful, cinematic albums such as Lost Voices (2015) and Everything Was Forever Until It Was No More (2022).
