Hailing from Viersen in Germany, Roosevelt—aka Marius Lauber—makes electronic music with a winning combination of indie’s heart-on-sleeve ethos and pop’s irresistible immediacy. As a songwriter, he excels at charting the highs and lows of romance, elevated with winsome, groove-led production as showcased on the blissed-out “Strangers” and “Wait Up”. He also tackles the moodier, synthier side of pop with verve (“Easy Way Out”) and can always amp up his proclivity for indie-rock textures, as on the soaring stomp of “Illusions”.
