Porcupine Tree Essentials

Porcupine Tree Essentials

Often compared to Pink Floyd and The Beach Boys, English progressive rock band Porcupine Tree constructed smart, intricate music drawing from a vast array of styles. The songs of their 1992 studio debut, On the Sunday of Life, combine the unorthodox harmonic progressions of Rush and Brian Eno with the heavy metal tones of Black Sabbath, forging a new path for prog. Later songs like “Anesthetize” (from the album Fear of a Blank Planet) and “Lazarus” (from Deadwing) are masterclasses in pensive songwriting, the former an epic canvas synthesising progressive metal, rock and post-rock.
