Editors' Notes Not3s has helped transform the boundaries of UK rap by mixing the vibrancy and melody of Afrobeats with funk. He first made noise in 2017 with “Addison Lee (Peng Ting Called Maddison),” setting the blueprint for a sound that blends lush layers of complex instrumentation. He can draw out the melody in a song, like on the warm and bouncy “Butterflies,” where his voice floats lightly over the production. But then he'll hunker down to spit straightforward, playfully catchy bars atop a churning hip-hop beat (“Notice”). On the mellow and airy “M3 Not You,” he proves the alchemy of doing both.
