MUNA: Sydney WorldPride 2023

“So much amazing music came out in 2022—this list is some of our fave songs from this past year and some of our favourite songs in general,” MUNA guitarist Naomi McPherson tells Apple Music. “Music brings people together and these songs are brought together by the fact that we—three queer people—like them,” they say. The indie-pop trio certainly knows how to write a great inclusive jam (“Silk Chiffon”, for example), and their own standards in the studio are to be heard in their selections here. With punchy picks from Paramore to RuPaul, read on to discover the songs that put the capital P in Pride for MUNA. SZA, “Nobody Gets Me” and “Special” “Much like the rest of the world, we were very stoked when her new album came out. She’s such a profoundly good writer and world builder.” Martika, “Love… Thy Will Be Done” “A Prince-produced slapper of a tune. Just beautiful. Apparently it has a Cocteau Twins sample which makes it even better.” Charli XCX, “Lightning” “CRASH is easily one of the greatest albums of last year. God bless Charli XCX.” The artwork above was created in collaboration with Dja Dja Wurrung and Yorta Yorta artist ENOKi.
