Mr. Oizo brings a healthy dose of mayhem to the French electronic scene. Where many of his peers emphasise heady grooves and sleek textures, the devil-may-care producer born Quentin Dupieux delights in dial-tone buzz and stuttering chord stabs. Licensing his 1999 single "Flat Beat" to a TV commercial helped introduce his off-kilter funk to the world at large, and he later signed to Ed Banger, whose high-energy antics were inspired by the same playfully messy aesthetic. Off the dance floor, Dupieux's soundtracks to his own gonzo films feature some of his most exhilaratingly out-there tunes.
