Born in Malaysia and raised in Australia, bassist Linda May Han Oh earned a master's degree from the Manhattan School of Music and established herself as a major force on the New York jazz scene. She has worked fruitfully alongside musicians like guitarist Pat Metheny and pianist Vijay Iyer, but her imagination has found even greater scope as a bandleader. Since 2009 debut Entry, she has distinguished herself as an arranger and composer, whether constructing pieces from terse, cycling patterns that artfully blossom into fecund melodies or writing for a contrapuntal octet (including a string quartet) on 2019's Aventurine.
