Harold Budd Essentials

Composer and pianist Harold Budd helped to pioneer ambient music by blurring the lines between avant-garde classical, jazz and rock. Budd's composing career began in the late '60s, but it wasn't until longtime friend Brian Eno produced 1978's The Pavilion of Dreams that he attracted a wide audience. Known for a sound that mixes his gentle, impressionistic piano playing with ethereal electronic and orchestral soundscapes, Budd has released dozens of solo and collaborative albums over the decades. He's also worked with many of the artists he's inspired, including Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins.
