Francisco Gabilondo Soler created Cri-Cri, a singing cricket, as a character for the radio. Eventually, the songs this character sang—simple, wondrous ditties about animals that play music and vowels that get hungry—became so beloved that the name came to refer to Soler himself. Decades later, these songs have taught generations of Mexican kids not just facts about the world, but how to live life with open eyes and a big smile. Adults may not learn as much, but they'll still get hooked on the buoyant melodies, and family dancing may ensue.
