Copeland Essentials

Joining a burgeoning stream of emo renegades that swept the ‘00s scene, Copeland explored a broad, contemplative expanse of alternative that deeply resonated with fans. The band’s 2003 debut album Beneath Medicine Tree coupled ripples of angsty guitars with hypnotic, string-laced laments largely fuelled by singer-songwriter Aaron Marsh’s emotionally-charged personal experiences. The band explored new depths in follow-up releases filled with lyrical, gradually-unfolding melodies and achingly poignant vocals, constantly enhancing an evocative alt-rock vocabulary that continues to resonate.
