About Shingoose (poetry by Duke Redbird)
Shingoose (aka Curtis Jonnie), an Ojibwa Indian adopted by Manitoba missionaries at the age of four, began singing in the church choir. He sang with the Boystown Concert Choir after moving to the U.S. and, in the mid-'60s, started playing with rock and R&B bands in New York and Washington, D.C. Back in Canada by 1973, He began recording in 1975, when his Native Country EP was released. Battle of Norval (1979) and Natural Tan (1988) have also been released, on Headband Records. Shingoose is also very active in Native American causes, hosting a current affairs TV show. ~ John Bush
