JX

About JX

b. Jake Williams, England. Hailing from south London, this reclusive DJ established himself with ‘Son Of A Gun’, a UK Top 20 hit in April 1994 featuring the vocalist Billie Godfrey. This was followed by ‘You Belong To Me’ and ‘Can’t Take My Hands Off You’. Each single was originally issued on the cult house label Hooj Toons before being licensed either to London Records or its subsidiary outlet ffrr Records. In May 1996 ‘There’s Nothing I Won’t Do’ entered the UK Top 10 in its first week of release. JX is notably less prolific than most house artists with Williams insisting that ‘quality control is very important’ in order to gain the respect of his audience. He later recorded as Mekka and teamed up with Paul Oakenfold and Ian Masterson as Planet Perfecto to record the 1999 club classic ‘Bullet In The Gun’. He reassumed his most famous moniker for 2004’s Top 40 hit ‘Restless’.
