Ilmo Ranta

About Ilmo Ranta

This well-known Finnish concert and chamber music pianist began his formal studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, where he was a pupil of Liisa Pohjola. He then continued his studies with Klaus Schilde in Munich. Ranta has appeared as a soloist with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, and with the Avanti Chamber Orchestra. As a recitalist and chamber musician, Ranta focuses on Finnish composers. Ranta has toured extensively in concerts and recital appearances throughout Europe and the United States. As an accompanist to Lied singers, he has performed and recorded with vocalists Karita Mattila, Jorma Hynninen, and Petteri Salomaa.
