About Anthony Phillips

Multi-faceted musician Anthony Phillips is a prolific solo recording artist and one of the U.K.'s most successful composers of library music. The founding guitarist of Genesis (1967-1970), his first album under his own name, 1977's The Geese & the Ghost, was acclaimed by critics as a prog classic. A year later, he began the 11-volume, experimental Private Parts & Pieces series. Meanwhile, he cut the orchestral Tarka (1988) in collaboration with Harry Williamson and the London Symphony Orchestra, and his 1990 album, Slow Dance, was compared by critics to Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. Phillips spent the 2000s mainly working on library music, scores, and soundtracks, including Wildlife with frequent collaborator Joji Hirota, but in 2012, he released Seventh Heaven with Andrew Skeet, and the final series installment Private Parts & Pieces, Vol. 11: City of Dreams. His 2019 double-length solo set, Strings of Light, was steeped in classical, pre-Baroque and folk influences.
