The Neville Brothers: Influences

The Neville Brothers: Influences

The Neville Brothers looked to the greats when honing their signature R&B style, uniting the catchy, raucous rock 'n' roll of Smiley Lewis and Fats Domino with Sam Cooke's smooth soul and James Brown's energetic funk. The New Orleans siblings also kept their home city close to their hearts, taking cues from bandleader Dave Bartholomew when perfecting the clattering percussion on their version of “Way Down in the Hole”.
