The Kooks Essentials

The Kooks emerged from Brighton in the mid-'00s as a kinetic blur of tousled hair and '60s-spiked Britpop. The early single “Naive” rides a slinky rhythm and scratchy electric guitars, while 2006's “Seaside” is a heartfelt acoustic lament that highlights Luke Pritchard's impassioned intakes of breath and Brit accent. “I wanna make you happy, I wanna make you feel alive,” he sang a few years later on “Junk of the Heart (Happy)”, an upbeat slice of pop ghosted by whirring organ that continues the group's knack for combining the sprightly and the swaggering.
