The Hold Steady: Influences

The Hold Steady: Influences

The Hold Steady's Craig Finn is as much of a short-story writer as he is a frontman, and in finding his voice, he studied some of rock's most poetic singers. Bob Dylan and Warren Zevon showed him just how many words can fit into a song, while Jawbreaker and The Replacements influenced his knack for wringing pathos from punk grime, and AC/DC reminded him that a good riff can say a whole lot on its own.
