Former frontman of idiosyncratic indie greats The Beta Band, Scottish singer/songwriter Steve Mason makes equally beguiling experimental pop on his own. After recording in electronic-forward outfits King Biscuit Time and Black Affair, he released the first album under his own name, Boys Outside, an introspective journey into soulful, electronic folk. Since then, he's continued to create wistful, atmospheric pop that brings in elements of everything from folk to gospel and dance to hip-hop, as his smooth, haunting vocals reflect on society and politics through a deeply melancholic lens.
