In the 1990s a wave of gifted hip-hop artists arose at the outskirts of Parisian society; a small region would prove a prodigious wellspring of talent. Loosely organised around the Secteur Ä banner, created by Ministère AMER (the rap team-up of Passi and Stomy Bugsy), the collective represent a diverse range of styles. A rough-and-ready edge drives boom-bap tracks like Arsenik's “Affaires de famille” and La Clinique's “Tout saigne”, while at the other end, Doc Gyneco mixes reggae, acid jazz and world music to craft smoother grooves.
